Let’s play a Game: part 1~2

PART 1:

“This place is where we’re going to play?” Annisha asked, not sounding too happy.

“Yes.” I replied.

“Why?” She said lifting up her arms to try warming herself up. It was pretty warm out, but there was an odd chill hovering through the air. “| mean why are we playing a game in a cemetery? that’s straight dumb, considering the fact that the rules clearly states.” She enunciate. “That we should not be playing in a cemetery.”

“Why….ya scared?” I smirked, singing out the word ‘scared’,toying with her.

“N-no!” She stammered, moving closer towards her boyfriend for warmth.

“Do you believe in ghosts?” | snickered, enjoying her obvious fear as she clung tighter to her boyfriend.

“Alright Lea.” Habikki said to me. “Stop freaking her out.”

“I’m not scared!” She yelled. “Habikki shut up! You’re supposed to be on my side here.” She pushed her boyfriend in a somewhat playful manner.

“Alright.” He laughed “babe, I was just kidding.” He wrapped his arms around her in a protective yet sweet manner.

“You two are making me sick.” Kae chimed in, pushing pass the couple in obvious disdain “Can we hurry this up? We have class in the morning and three o’clock is approaching fast, let’s go!” She quickened her pace, trying to rush us along.

“Alright guys!” I shouted, as we neared the entrance of the cemetery. “lets set up in the center.” I slid the gate open, it’s ominous creak filling the silent air. The wind blew lightly, caressing my face. I looked up towards the off white moon, feeling an odd sensation. Bringing my attention back towards the group, that sensation left as quickly as it had come and all six of us pushed pass the threshold and into the cemetery.

“Jay.” Kae said “can you put new batteries in here? It’s starting to fade.” She tapped the flashlight in frustration. Jay looked at her confused. “What?” Kae asked, confused as to why he was looking at her strangely.

“I-I already did.” He sighed “| must have mixed the old ones in with the new, I’ll fix it later.” He muttered.

“Maybe it’s a ghost.” | laughed, trying to freak out our most logical friend in the group. He never gets scared and I would love to see how he would act. But my plan failed, he just glared at me through his glasses and shook his head.

“That’s not going to work and it never will.”

I shrugged “atleast I tried.” Finally making it to the center of the cemetery, we placed the board down and began to set up. “Now let’s get this game started!” I yelled excitedly “what time is it?” I asked to no one in particular.

“Two fifty-nine.” Jay responded blankly.

“Perfect.” I smiled.

We all gathered around and sat on the spotty half dead grass. When situated, we placed our hands on the glass cup in the center of the board. “Is anyone here?” I asked. “Go to the right for yes and left for no.” I said.

We waited patiently but to no avail, so I asked again. Our hands slowly slid to a letter. “L.” we all said in unison as it landed on the letter, my heart now in my throat with excitement. I knew it wasn’t me pushing and was thinking it may have been someone else, but I let it go to see what they would spell out. “E. A. V. E” it stopped abruptly. “Huh?…” I said a bit disappointed at the cliché. I opened my mouth to confront whoever it was to stop playing games, when the glass underneath our fingertips jerked us forward. Our voices rang out in rushed harmony, spelling out the new message. “N.O.W”

PART 2:

1 laughed “Okay… whose messing around?” I looked up and froze, my laughter dying in the air. All eyes were on me. “W-why are y’all staring at~” I paused, realization kicking in. “You don’t think it was me?” I raised an eyebrow, staring at them as I clutched my chest with my free hand, exaggerating how hurt I felt.

“Oh come on Lea!” Jay rolled his eyes. The light from the flashlight glinted off of his glasses, making him look almost zombie like. The moment I noticed it, I felt the air growing chillier and the hairs on the back of my neck stand. An ominous feeling weighing down on us like a thick heavy fog.

“N-no seriously” I stuttered, all traces of playfulness leaving me, realizing how serious they were. Studying each and everyone of their expressions made me a little nervous and that odd sensation gnawing at the back of my mind was causing me to grow more and more terrified as time passed. Something was off and I couldn’t place a finger on just what it was and that terrified me. My friends were good at lying but not that good. It was rare for me to feel something like this, I mean I enjoy horror, but I felt truly scared. My mind became more on the alert by this threatening presence that clung to my chest like chains.

“Something… isn’t right.” I said, feeling sick to my stomach.

“Oh stop it!” Kae yelled, her voice obviously cracking as she did.

“NO I~” My words caught in my throat, our hands were forced to move again. Wanting to stop the game, I tugged my hand but I couldn’t break free. “I~| can’t let go!” I panicked. Everyone began tugging at their hands like crazy, when they realized they were also stuck, foul language sprung from their lips like a broken faucet. Javier was freaking out so bad he started speaking in spanish.

The glass cup in our hands bounced between the letters G and O like a broken record, jerking us back and forth for what felt like an eternity. Finally it stopped and we all flew back, like an invisible bomb had went off in the center were our hands met. We all got up, visibly shaken by what had just happened. “I mean I wanted to see a ghost, but not a demon.” My voice wavering as I spoke.

“What did you expect?” Habbiki replied angrily “At Three Freaking A.M! what did you expect? It’s the witching-hour.. the demon Hour.”

“Alright. Alright.” I said cutting him off, still in shock. “we should~”

“Should just leave!” Kae exclaimed, stealing the words from right out of my mouth. “Javier is freaking out!” She pointed at him while maintaining eye contact with me “He‘s not even speaking English anymore!”

At any given time I would have laughed, but I couldn’t find it in me to. “Not yet…we need to close the gate~”

My voice was interrupted by a raspy voice that came from no where, yet everywhere at once “No.” It said “Let’s play..a game.”
