“Be quiet!” I yelled. Knowing she was safely handcuffed to the handle of the car, I calmed my emotions. She wouldn’t escape even if she tried. I just needed her to be quiet so I could think. “Don’t you dare say another word, we are almost home…” | turned to her, smiling with reassurance “…..You’ll be happy once we get there.” | said softly before turning my attention back towards the road. Taking my foot off the break, I tried the exit once again.
I drove till I was on the bridge. Putting my foot on the break and parking the car, I hopped out and walked over to the edge to investigate further. Hoping I could find help… or maybe some kind of way out. I stared into the thick fog, praying that I could see something, but there was no light, no cars, just thick heavy clouds. Lifting my head up to see the exact same thing, no stars, no moon, nothing. What if I… I snapped my head back down towards the ground, searching until I found what I was looking for. I reached down and grabbed a rock, tossing it over and into the fog. Patiently waiting for the noise to follow, it felt like an eternity until I finally got my wish. It wasn’t at all what I hoped for, instead of hearing it below me, something hit the rails and landed next to me. Turning towards it stiffly, I prayed it wasn’t what I thought it was, but I was proven wrong, it was the rock that l had thrown. N-no way. I thought in disbelief. No freakin’ way!
Just where am I? I thought, I clutched the rail, as my heart sank down to my toes. Where am I? This can’t be real… this can’t be real! I rushed back towards the car, my mind racing.
I sat down, slamming the car door shut and staring out the window trying to process what was happening. “A-are you alright?” The girl behind me asked. I couldn’t answer, my words caught In my throat. It’s just a dream… I’m just having a nightmare! I threw my head back against the seat and closed my eyes… I’ll wake up and…
“Ahhh!” Her scream pierced my thoughts like an arrow, sending me crashing back into this nightmare.
“What is your problem?!” I yelled at her through gritted teeth. “L-look!’ She gestured with her head. I turned and my mind went blank, as a horrible chill danced up and down my spine.
My eyes glided up the tree, a silhouette of something was on top of the highest tree. I hadn’t notice I was staring at its neck, until it turned to face my direction. It was passed the top of the tree, the top of the highest freaking tree! But that’s not what made my heart stop, or what made my blood turn to ice and everything within me go completely numb. No…
His height, although frightening, wasn’t what petrified me, but it was his face that got me. His pale face, glowing like the surface of the moon’s and those eyes, those unbelievably unrealistic eyes, that stared at me… no not at me, but straight into the depths of my soul, like it was ready to snatch it out of my body. Its eyes, were nothing but two black pools of darkness and its mouth a gaping black line. It stared at me like I was dinner, its mouth slowly began to stretched from ear to ear, in an unnaturally painfully looking smile. As it did, its eyes joined in, turning into a smile itself. It looked exactly like those creepy theatre masks. Not wanting to stay any longer, I managed to regain feeling back into my limbs and set the car into drive, leaving the bridge and passing that monstrosity. Keeping a close eye on it, my heart flipped, as I watched it let go of the tree and creep along side my car.
I made it out before it could catch me, but hearing her piercing screams from behind me wasn’t exactly helping. “Quiet!” I shouted at her. “j~just let me think!” She was unfortunately not quiet, but after passing sixteen-B seven times, she spoke up her concerns.
“Wh~what is this place? Are we in some kind of loop?” She cried.
“I~I don’t know.” I replied. Not getting anywhere, I stepped on the breaks once again. But seeing the trees stir in front of me, made me rethink my decision. I watched as that thing poked it’s head out and stared at us, its smile never leaving its face. Without missing a beat, I put the car in reverse, driving backwards, but was forced to stop, when it somehow appeared behind us. Which confirmed my suspicions that we were indeed looping. Having no choice, I went back onto the exit, panicking.
“W~we have to find a way out!” | mumbled repeatedly. “T~there has to be a way out!”
