• Let’s Play a Game: Final

I looked up, eventhough my mouth was full of dirt, I couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across my face. Through the sputtering and coughing, I felt a tickle in my stomach, I began to laugh… surely I must have looked crazy, but I didn’t care. Pushing myself up on all fours, I looked at the figure standing before me. “See!” 1 choked out, lifting the board up. “I’ve won!” The thing looked down and backed up, its eyes were glowing a strangely peircing milky white. It stared at me, studying me like some science project. Just what is it thinking?! I won… I won right? Clutching the board tighter, I stood my ground, matching it glare for glare.

It’s translucent lips parted “Becareful of your wish.” It said. I searched its face, studying it, trying to find some sort of hidden meaning. But that thing wore its mask like the dying flesh it had wrapped around it’s skull. “Be wise…” his words seeming to hold a hidden meaning behind them “…state your desire.”

1 thought for a moment, but I knew what I wanted. “I~I wish I never met you!” | yelled “a~and that everything goes back to the way it was!” This wish should be fine… right? I chewed on my bottom lip. I jumped as it belowed out an unexpected laughter. “What’s so funny?” I growled out in confusion. “You’ve lost.”

“You’re still clueless as ever… little girl” He laughed “You’re desire has never changed.”

I could feel my eyes about ready to pop out of my skull, as my heart sank down to my toes. “Wait, what…what does that mean?’ I swallowed through the dry lump in my throat, waiting for an answer that never came. My world shifted and I felt as if I was plummeting into a black hole.

“Wake up already!… Lea!” I jumped up, startled awake by Annisha’s aggressiveness “I’m guessing you were up all night reading those scary stories again, weren’t you?” She whispered.

Pushing myself off of the table, I rubbed At my pounding head. Looking around the room I was in, something important retreated into the back of my mind and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t remember what it was.

“Hello! Earth to Lea?” Annisha waved her hand in my face.

What ever it was could wait and I’m sure it would come to me eventually. But as of right now, trying to recall it irritated me and it hurt my head whenever I tried to remember. I yawned, stopping mid-way when I finally remembered something.

“That’s right, tomorrow is October 31st!”

“Shhh.” The librarian hushed me. Giving a quick apology, I turned back towards my group of friends, lowering my voice to a whisper, “I heard if you play a game at the cemetery of Macbeth and win the game, you get to make a wish.”

  • Let’s Play a Game Part 5~6

    Part 5:

Pushing myself to my feet. Jay was right. I thought. It was not the time to give up, we still have a chance to save everyone.

“Alright.” I said, feeling more resolved.

“Let’s try this one more time”

“B-but.” Annisha sobbed out. “There’s no point! we’re all dead anyways.” She continued sobbing into Habbiki’s chest.

“Stop it.” Habikki said softly, lifting up her chin to look at him. “We can’t give up, let’s try one more time…huh?” Caressing her face, he brushed his thumb softly up against her cheek, wiping away her tears. “I said I’d take you to the dance in a horse and carriage, a fairytale that you‘ve always dreamt of…remember?”

She nodded. “O-okay. I trust you.”

Habikki forced himself onto his feet, before reaching his hand out towards her. With a shaky hand, she took his in hers.

“Alright, let’s do this!” Habikki said, peering over at me and Jay, his eyes burning with resolve. We bolted once again through the fog, this time splitting up. One group headed towards the gates in the opposite direction from where we ran, maybe we could figure out some kind of clue or a possible way out.

The countdown hit four as we skidded to a stop, we were right back in the center. All of us staring at one another. “N-no way!” | stomped on the ground, shouting out my frustrations. “Turn around! Let’s try again!” We all turned and ran frantically back through the thick fog. Time was up, and we were back to being face to face with one another. “We need to hide!”

We rushed towards the gravestones, hiding back behind them. My mouth went dry and my heart thudded against my chest, when that familiar sound of a bell rang out in the distance, followed by that unsettling voice.

“W-what do we do!?” I yelled in a whisper. I felt as if I couldn’t breathe, like the whole world was closing in on me.

“Shh!.” Jay said, grabbing my hand. “Be quiet, calm yourself down.” He let go of my hand and slowly peeked his head over the gravestone, only to crouch back down in a frenzy. His breath quickened and the mask of composure he had worn before, completely shattered. With a shaky finger, he nervously fixed his glasses. “I-I think It saw me” His voice shook “We gotta move to a different spot.”

“Too late.” My heart sank, Its distorted whisper sounded like it was right behind us. “I know where you are.” It laughed.

A cold shiver ran down my spine, my body unable to move. Just then, Habikki shot up. “Run you guys, I’ll hold him off.”

    “No!” Annisha screeched.

“Save us by beating that thing at its own game and keep them safe!” Habikki smiled. I could see his lips quivering slightly, but his eyes held so much confidence. “Jay, I leave it to you.”

Understanding, Jay grabbed both me and Annisha. “No! No!” Annisha screamed, breaking free from Jay’s grasp.

“Annisha!” I screamed after her. She turned back and smiled at me. “You are our only hope!” She shook her head, her decision final. “I can’t live without him, I know you’ll save us.” She slid her hand into Habbiki’s.

I tried to pry my hand away from Jay’s, but he had surprising strength, as he tugged at my hand with an iron grip. We dashed to a large gravestone, ducking down behind it. My world felt like it was breaking into millions of pieces. Noticing this, Jay wrapped his arms around me. “Im sorry… I’m sorry.” He hugged me tighter, his voice cracking. “But we’re running out of time!” He let out a shaky breath. “We only have one more shot at this and we can’t afford to get caught, everyone is counting on us.”

    Part 6:

I rested my head against his shoulders, breathing in and out. Feeling like I was back in control, I gently pushed away from him. We put our heads together, coming up with a game plan. “Wait.” Jay said “The riddle he gave us, didn’t he say; ‘find the object that started the game?’“

My eyes widened and I practically face palmed.

“How could we possibly be so stupid?!” I shouted in the air. “It was so simple.”

“Exactly, but it knew we would be too scared to process the riddle and make a run for it. That thing knows how to play its victims well.” He spat out, his face twisting in disgust.

“So..”‘ I growled. “Let’s end this game.”

We both hadn’t notice it was times up until it’s voice cut through our thoughts like a Razer. “Ready or not, here I come!”

“We need a decoy!” Jay blurted out.

    “Alright I’~” I began.

“‘I’ll do it.” Jay cut in.

    “No but~”

“No…” he shook his head. “…I’ll do it, you are faster than me, you’re on the track team remember…The fastest in school, you must get that board.” I wanted to argue so bad, but the bell was growing closer and we were running out of time. I got up and dashed towards the brick wall of fog. A blood curdling screech echoed somewhere behind me and then the sound of a bell ringing like crazy heading in my direction. The noise blared in my ears and the fog blinded me, it seemed like the thing wasn’t ready for the game to end just yet.

The wind picked up and the sound of laughter followed, Then that dreaded count down continued.

    You cheater! I yelled.

“I’m playing fair, I’m seeking and you’re finding, there is no exact order of how I do this little girl”

The light I was searching for never appeared before me. What does he call this then? I thought.

“Your time is nearly up.” It taunted.

“We will see!” I retorted. As he countinued his countdown from five, I noticed something was off. Was he forcing me to run in a loop? If so…. I closed my eyes, I had one shot to do this, trusting myself, I leaped for it.

  • Let’s play a Game part 3~4

    Part 3:

We all froze at the figure before us. Its body cascaded in shadow, only to reveal white glowing eyes, it was like an obscured version of the moons light. The figure before us was tall and wore a black cloak, it smiled and once again a white light beamed at us from within its mouth. The moon’s light shown down on it for a second, revealing a skeleton like face. It was as if all the meat and blood was taken out of it and only its flesh and skeleton remained, making it practically see-through. The moon’s light disappeared behind the clouds, like it was closing its curtains and putting us back into the dark. Our words caught in our throats, unsure of what to say.

That thing before us belowed out a laugh, breaking the silence and In a distorted voice that sounded like multiple people “The rules are simple….” It muttered through its cold transparent lips “…A little game I call find and seek…” its eyes moved from person to person slowly, studying us. “…You find and I seek, the winner get’s a wish.” It paused, letting us hang on its every word.

“W-what does the loser get?” Habbiki managed to croak out.

It laughed a cynical laughter. “Easy, I get your soul forever… Get the object that started the game and you get a wish that’ll set you free.. if you lose.” he chuckled “you all belong to me!”

“N-No!” Kae screeched, rushing at it, ready to hit it with her flashlight “I’m not letting you~” I screamed for her to stop, but our screams were useless, with wide eyes I watched as the horror unfolded before me.

Her words cut short and her body was flung back into a gravestone. Her head spun and her skull~ I turned and threw up. Tears streaming down my cheeks, Kae was like a sister and now she was gone. Our sobs pierced through the dead of night.

You’ve got twenty seconds, you must play the game or you end up like your friend.” It disappeared not giving us a chance to mourn or process what just happened. Its voice echoing throughout the graveyard, counting down from twenty.

“We gotta go!” Habbiki shouted, his voice sounding far away. I felt a hand tugging on me desperately “Get up!” He shouted, helping me to my feet. “We don’t have much time, let’s find the entrance!” We all listened and without missing a beat, we ran towards what we believed was the way we had come.

“The fog is so thick!” I yelled. “I can’t see a thing!”

“I-I think I see something” Jay yelled somewhere beside me… or was he in front of me? I couldn’t tell which was odd, but how could I explain anything, this whole night was crazy. All I wanted to do was see a ghost or two, not fend for my life. At this point I just wanted to go home.

“I-it’s an opening!” Annisha yelled with delight. Soon I saw it too and we all ran at it in full force, my lungs and my legs burned, while my heart was beating so fast I thought it would give. The countdown hit four as we made it pass the light.

The smile of relief slid off my face, terror running through my veins like poison at the scene before us. “One!” the voice said.

    Part 4:

My eyes widener in terror, any warmth I had left my body. “H-how is this p-possible?” I stuttered. “We’re right back to where we started.”

“No time.” Jay said. He grabbed my hand and we sprinted towards the gravestones amongst the heavy fog. A bell could be heard in the distance and an echo of a voice followed soon after. “Ready or not, here I come!” It said in its menacingly distorted voice, this time resembling a more childlike one, making it sound even more creepy.

We ran behind a gravestone, trying to figure out what to do next. The sound of the bell growing louder each second. I looked over at everyone, Javier was rocking back and forth, reciting some chant. My heart broke for him, he wasn’t a horror type guy, but he never believed in superstitions either. Which is why he even bothered to come, to prove that his family was wrong by recording evidence, but I guess we got the short end of the stick.

I glanced over at Annisha, she was clinging to Habikki, silently sobbing into his chest.

“Lea.” Jay whispered, “We’ve got to try one more time.” I nodded. Out of all of us, I was surprised that he wasn’t freaking out more than Javier was. Jay was a non-believer, yet he was leading the group with a clear head.

“I can’t take this anymore!” Javier shot up screaming. “1-1 need to leave! I gotta get out of here!”

    “Shh!” We yelled.

“Calm down, we will escape!” Jay yelled in a hushed tone, trying to coax him to sit back down and hide.

“No!” He screamed. Jay tugged him down but he kept resisting. Javier was strong, actually one of our most strongest quarterback in school. Javier bolted through the graveyard in a panic and with the bell sounding so close, I feared what was about to transpire. “No!” We screamed, but it was a futile attempt, the thing appeared in front of him, grabbing his neck and opening its mouth at an inhumane length, we stared in horror as Javier was sucked in. It closed its mouth and then disappeared as quickly as it came. Through the quiet night, its distorted voice broke the silence, counting down again. My legs shook and I fell onto my butt. So scared, I was so scared. “I-I don’t want to do this anymore, I’m ready to just give up and let that thing take me. We can’t win.” I said defeated, accepting my fate.

Jay shook me. “Don’t talk like that!” He yelled.

“We are in this together and we will fight this together, don’t give up!” His voice cracked, his own desperation and fear slipping through. “We can make it! Everything will workout, let’s just work this out together.. okay?” | nodded. “You’re not alone.”

  • Let’s play a Game: part 1~2

    PART 1:

“This place is where we’re going to play?” Annisha asked, not sounding too happy.

    “Yes.” I replied.

“Why?” She said lifting up her arms to try warming herself up. It was pretty warm out, but there was an odd chill hovering through the air. “| mean why are we playing a game in a cemetery? that’s straight dumb, considering the fact that the rules clearly states.” She enunciate. “That we should not be playing in a cemetery.”

“Why….ya scared?” I smirked, singing out the word ‘scared’,toying with her.

“N-no!” She stammered, moving closer towards her boyfriend for warmth.

“Do you believe in ghosts?” | snickered, enjoying her obvious fear as she clung tighter to her boyfriend.

“Alright Lea.” Habikki said to me. “Stop freaking her out.”

“I’m not scared!” She yelled. “Habikki shut up! You’re supposed to be on my side here.” She pushed her boyfriend in a somewhat playful manner.

“Alright.” He laughed “babe, I was just kidding.” He wrapped his arms around her in a protective yet sweet manner.

“You two are making me sick.” Kae chimed in, pushing pass the couple in obvious disdain “Can we hurry this up? We have class in the morning and three o’clock is approaching fast, let’s go!” She quickened her pace, trying to rush us along.

“Alright guys!” I shouted, as we neared the entrance of the cemetery. “lets set up in the center.” I slid the gate open, it’s ominous creak filling the silent air. The wind blew lightly, caressing my face. I looked up towards the off white moon, feeling an odd sensation. Bringing my attention back towards the group, that sensation left as quickly as it had come and all six of us pushed pass the threshold and into the cemetery.

“Jay.” Kae said “can you put new batteries in here? It’s starting to fade.” She tapped the flashlight in frustration. Jay looked at her confused. “What?” Kae asked, confused as to why he was looking at her strangely.

“I-I already did.” He sighed “| must have mixed the old ones in with the new, I’ll fix it later.” He muttered.

“Maybe it’s a ghost.” | laughed, trying to freak out our most logical friend in the group. He never gets scared and I would love to see how he would act. But my plan failed, he just glared at me through his glasses and shook his head.

“That’s not going to work and it never will.”

I shrugged “atleast I tried.” Finally making it to the center of the cemetery, we placed the board down and began to set up. “Now let’s get this game started!” I yelled excitedly “what time is it?” I asked to no one in particular.

    “Two fifty-nine.” Jay responded blankly.

    “Perfect.” I smiled.

We all gathered around and sat on the spotty half dead grass. When situated, we placed our hands on the glass cup in the center of the board. “Is anyone here?” I asked. “Go to the right for yes and left for no.” I said.

We waited patiently but to no avail, so I asked again. Our hands slowly slid to a letter. “L.” we all said in unison as it landed on the letter, my heart now in my throat with excitement. I knew it wasn’t me pushing and was thinking it may have been someone else, but I let it go to see what they would spell out. “E. A. V. E” it stopped abruptly. “Huh?…” I said a bit disappointed at the cliché. I opened my mouth to confront whoever it was to stop playing games, when the glass underneath our fingertips jerked us forward. Our voices rang out in rushed harmony, spelling out the new message. “N.O.W”

    PART 2:

1 laughed “Okay… whose messing around?” I looked up and froze, my laughter dying in the air. All eyes were on me. “W-why are y’all staring at~” I paused, realization kicking in. “You don’t think it was me?” I raised an eyebrow, staring at them as I clutched my chest with my free hand, exaggerating how hurt I felt.

“Oh come on Lea!” Jay rolled his eyes. The light from the flashlight glinted off of his glasses, making him look almost zombie like. The moment I noticed it, I felt the air growing chillier and the hairs on the back of my neck stand. An ominous feeling weighing down on us like a thick heavy fog.

“N-no seriously” I stuttered, all traces of playfulness leaving me, realizing how serious they were. Studying each and everyone of their expressions made me a little nervous and that odd sensation gnawing at the back of my mind was causing me to grow more and more terrified as time passed. Something was off and I couldn’t place a finger on just what it was and that terrified me. My friends were good at lying but not that good. It was rare for me to feel something like this, I mean I enjoy horror, but I felt truly scared. My mind became more on the alert by this threatening presence that clung to my chest like chains.

“Something… isn’t right.” I said, feeling sick to my stomach.

“Oh stop it!” Kae yelled, her voice obviously cracking as she did.

“NO I~” My words caught in my throat, our hands were forced to move again. Wanting to stop the game, I tugged my hand but I couldn’t break free. “I~| can’t let go!” I panicked. Everyone began tugging at their hands like crazy, when they realized they were also stuck, foul language sprung from their lips like a broken faucet. Javier was freaking out so bad he started speaking in spanish.

The glass cup in our hands bounced between the letters G and O like a broken record, jerking us back and forth for what felt like an eternity. Finally it stopped and we all flew back, like an invisible bomb had went off in the center were our hands met. We all got up, visibly shaken by what had just happened. “I mean I wanted to see a ghost, but not a demon.” My voice wavering as I spoke.

“What did you expect?” Habbiki replied angrily “At Three Freaking A.M! what did you expect? It’s the witching-hour.. the demon Hour.”

“Alright. Alright.” I said cutting him off, still in shock. “we should~”

“Should just leave!” Kae exclaimed, stealing the words from right out of my mouth. “Javier is freaking out!” She pointed at him while maintaining eye contact with me “He‘s not even speaking English anymore!”

At any given time I would have laughed, but I couldn’t find it in me to. “Not yet…we need to close the gate~”

My voice was interrupted by a raspy voice that came from no where, yet everywhere at once “No.” It said “Let’s play..a game.”

  • A Non-Ordinary Day: Final

My eyes couldn’t believe what they were seeing, this thing was half my size, considering the fact I’m six feet tall. If that thing stood on its hind legs it would practically tower over me. We stood there for a moment, staring at one another. Finally, for what felt like hours, the beast’s ruby eye’s moved up and down, as if it were studying me like I were some science experiment, splayed out and ready to be dissected. Feeling the adrenaline washing away my feelings of dread, I manage to take control over my limbs and with shaky legs, I took a step back. The beast’s eyes flew down towards my legs, I could feel my heartbeat quicken, thumping harshly against my ribcage and filling my ears with it’s noisy rhythmic music. I-is this thing amused? I thought, watching it’s expression closely. J-just what is this thing? This dog-like-creature was certainly intelligent, far too intelligent for something of its species. I slowly took another step back and the thing perfectly mirrored my movement’s, as if it could tell what I was about to do next. I knew it was either now or never, as the thing peered back into my eyes, seeming bored of its game.

The red stained drool around its mouth slowly dripped onto the floor, becoming part of the crimson pool at its feet. The noise was eerie as it echoed through the alleyway. I hadn’t notice how dreadfully silent the world was until the slow drip of its drool pierced into the air, leaving its mark as its dreadful melody played in my ears, etching fear into my heart. It once again bared its fangs, growling at me. The deep vibrations sent shivers up and down my spine in a warning, turning my blood cold. His gray shabby fur was stained with blood and caked with dirt, making him appear even more vicious. It slurped the rest of the cats tail in its mouth, licked its lips and let out a loud belching noise like a human.

Shaking, I bent my legs, preparing myself to sprint back the way I had come. The beast mimicked me but I didn’t wait to see what it would do next, I turned and lurched forward. I could literally feel the ground shacking like an earthquake beneath me and its growls rumbling like thunder behind me. I turned the corner towards my home like a mad man but skidded to an abrupt stop, my eyes widening at the scene before me. Man! I thought. I really should have taken my car.

  • A Non-Ordinary Day: Part~1

Yawning, I grabbed my keys off of the rack and walked out the door. It was a beautiful afternoon, honestly it was just like any other boring afternoon. Wanting a different routine, I bypassed my car, deciding to walk today. The convenience store was only a few blocks away from my home and I honestly could use the exercise. Heading down the street I noticed how odd it was, it was strangely quiet, it was quite unusual actually. Shrugging it off I kept walking, nearing the convinience store up ahead, I glanced over at an ally-way that had caught my attention. Although it was a brief glance it was all it took to catch my full attention.

Pausing mid-step, I noticed a dog lying on the ground, its head bobbing up and down as if chomping on something. I figured it was eating a meal an employee had given it, shrugging, I slowly turned away to continue my march down the sidewalk, but the dog stopped chomping as if noticing another presence was near. Lifting its head, it slowly turned its head towards me. An odd sensation crept up my spine, causing the hairs on the back of my neck to rise in response.

Although it was warm outside I was shivering, not understanding why, but this feeling was unusual to me, it was like that dog twisted the atmosphere around me distorting it into something sinister. A warning I wish I had heeded earlier, but knowing this now, it was already too late. The dog beast twisted its head towards my direction, but it no longer looked like a dog, but some ferocious thing I couldn’t describe. It’s eyes glowered at me, shining an unusual ruby hue, if this was a demon, I wish I could erase my memory. My stomach twisted in knots and my feet rooted itself in place by fear, forcing me to watch the thing curl its red stained lips upward in a snarl, bearing its sharp bloodstained teeth. Blood oozed down its furry jaw and a black cat’s tail hung out of it like spaghetti. At this point I should have ran, screamed for help, anything but I couldn’t move nor breathe. My throat constricted and my muscles stiffened as the dog beast stood up and faced me, forcing my eyes to widen in shock and fear.
