• My forever

Annoyed, I left. I was grateful to be a real head turner tonight, but I was a lonely head turner who just stood there stupidly. I angrily dialed for a cab, kicking rocks as I waited. “Well… I guess I can go ahead and toss that spell into the trash.” I sighed aloud as I looked up into the starry sky. It’s a real shame… I shook my head. I’m sure I’d be dead when the next time this perfect alignment will show… Even the stars are aligned perfectly too! I thought studying the stars.

I moaned out another frustration, fighting back tears when the sound of a car pulled up beside me. Ripping my gaze away from the crystals in the sky, I hopped into the cab, giving him the location of my house and then closing my eyes, enjoying the trip home.

“Miss…” The driver said, waking me up. “We’re here.” Nodding, I paid and got out. “Also….” he smiled before continuing “I hope you two love birds have fun, it sure is an interesting place for romance.” He winked, then rolled up his window and sped off. I stared after the car, still half asleep, trying to process whether I heard the guy correctly or not.

“Behind you.” A voice whispered into my ear playfully. Startled, I swiftly turned on my heels to face the owner of that voice. My hair stood on end as I stared up at him, no longer sure of my feelings from earlier. Thi-this is what I wa-wanted r-right? I thought, trying to convince myself.

“Y-you broke your promise…” I gulped out to him, trying to sound as bold as I could “Wh-which means all deals are off!” I turned away, trying to give him no room to answer but he grabbed my arm, forcing me to face him.

“Not in the slightest love…” He retorted calmly. “…Not my fault you didn’t see me and now it’s your turn to keep your end of the deal.”

Shocked, I stared up at him as his red eyes pierced back down into mines, causing the words I wanted to spew out to be lodged into my throat. He was handsome, but his aura was frightening.

“The book.” He said, answering the question I had yet to ask. My jaw slid open, realization hitting me like ton of bricks.

“Y-you played me? this spell was never mine was it? You wanted me to see what you wanted me to see… didn’t you?” I said weakly, staring at his eerie smile. My eyes veered behind him, glued to a familiar house. The house that was dead yesterday, was now alive and vibrant. The fire within it, danced along with shadows in the shape of something my brain couldn’t quite comprehend.

“I’ve been watching you for awhile.” He said, filling my insides with dread as he traced his thumb along my chin, sending a fury of goosebumps across my body. And that’s when I finally Understood, that it wasn’t me who had conjured him, but he who had conjured me. Trying to yank myself free from his grasp but failing miserably as he wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me off of my feet like I was nothing. All I could do was pound my fist into his flesh, kicking and screaming in protest.

He leaned in and kissed my forehead “You’re my forever.”

  • My Forever

The window blew open like a bomb, bringing in the storm. I couldn’t have that mess with my seance, so I dropped my book of spells and rushed towards the window, shutting and locking them. Without a moment to waste, I swirled around and dashed back towards my spot. Checking the time to see that the minute hadn’t changed yet, I grabbed the book in one swift motion and flipped it back to the page I was on and continued to read the spell. After a while, everything calmed down and I was able to successfully continue my chanting without further interruption. Checking the clock, I was happy to see that I was twenty minutes shy of midnight.

Finally finishing up, I zipped out of the house so fast I couldn’t even bother to detour. The houses energy had shifted, no longer feeling the same way it did before I’d entered. I knew enough to know that when a placed of the condemned was no longer welcoming, you needed to leave. I had feared I might have awakened something, but I hoped it hadn’t awoken just yet.

    ******

Waking up with a yawn, I realized that my body was still feeling off since yesterday night, but I simply chalked it up to my spells taking a toll on me, which wasn’t new. Eventually my energy would come back to me and since it was a much stronger spell, I figured just sleeping wasn’t going to cut it, but Knowing everything was going to be fine, I went on about my day.

Anxiously I waited for my partner the entire day, but he never made his debut. Disappointed but hopeful that maybe he would once I headed over towards the party. Getting ready, making sure I looked as good as I felt, I headed out the door and walked towards the cab. I noticed that the night had an odd chill about it and that the wind was much more feisty than usual, but it didn’t strike me as too odd.

Making it to the school, I hoped out and walked towards the gym. Opening the door, I paused, noticing that all eyes were on me. Their judge filled gazes left me feeling uneasy and it made me even more upset that my partner wasn’t here to help me show them out. Heat rushed to my cheeks, but I didn’t want to show my embarrassment. Staring at the food table, I glided in its direction, keeping my eyes locked on it as to avoid potential eye contact.

I made myself a plate and when I felt that those unwanted eyes had drifted away from me, did I finally peek out and into the crowd. I rolled my eyes when I locked gazes with a familiar girl, who gracefully walked through the sea of dancing kids and up to me. Seeing that stupid smug smile of hers that I hated so much plastered onto her doll like glossy red lips, made me want to punch her in her plastic face. I knew she was going to say something that would irk me, so I prepared myself. Oddly enough, the smile she carried was ripped of her lips and replaced with an odder expression, like she was fascinated by something next to me.

Confused by her changing expression, I turned to see what she was looking at but only saw dead air. “Alright.” She said, bringing my attention back to her. “I’ll admit, nice catch.” She smiled at something behind me before leaving. I turned again to see nothing there.

“Weird.” I said aloud, stumped by what just happened. I kept looking around as I ate my food, hoping my date would show up already.

Throughout the night, I was weirded out by the expressions on so many people’s faces, which stared at me, not in disgust or annoyance as usual, but with an expression of envy.

  • My Forever

    Part 1

I stared up at the manor, dark clouds rolled in beautifully, creating the perfect backdrop for this abandon home. It’s decaying body, cracked and falling apart, made the scene before me so… enchanting. It filled my mind with wonders as to what stories and secrets it could have possibly locked deep inside.

I stared up at it, with the wind blowing fiercely past me, making me smile to how perfect today was. I mean it wasn’t every day that valentines fell on a Saturday and even more perfect that today is Friday the thirteenth. I chuckled to myself at how ideal this alignment was, what more can a person ask for to make the perfect seance.

To get this spell casted right, I pulled out my phone and checked the time, making sure I was twenty minutes early and perfectly two hours shy of midnight, I smiled and slid it back into my pocket. I managed to be thirty minutes early than scheduled. Peering up at the manor with honest determination, I had one shot and I wasn’t going to let anything hinder it! This spell had to be casted perfectly and I knew it would be.

You’ve created countless spells! I told myself. All of which have been praised by many! You have the blood of a witch! I shook my nerves and stood up straight, prep talking myself into continuing the ritual. This spell was my most powerful one yet, it cannot… no… it will not fail me now. I smiled at the thought as I walked up the hill towards the beautiful dark painting that was this mansion. Grabbing the tools from my pocket I swiftly picked it until a click could be heard. Opening the door and shutting it behind me, I eyed the time, making sure I still had time to walk around and find the perfect area to create my circle.

Feeling each room out, until I found the perfect space, when I happily stopped in the hugest master bedroom I’d ever seen, knowing that this was the one. This room had more of a darkness about it than the other rooms that made my hair stand on end. I basked in its ruinous energy, it filled my heart with desire and pumped my stomach full of butterflies. Was this what it felt like to fall in love? Or go on a first date? I thought of what tomorrow may bring once the spell had worked and twirled at the mere thought, excitement fueling my veins. Twirling my way into the center, I danced about, joyfully carving two circles and then in circling them both in an even larger one onto the wooden floor. Conjuring up two different spirits required two separate circles and a formulated spell, combining them into one.

I delicately but quickly connected the outer circle with the two circles, creating intricate designs, woven with my desires to conjure the perfect being. When finished, I sat in front of it and placed my supplies around me. I praised myself at how beautiful it was and thought about how my success was going to make everyone falter at my feet during the party, those worthless low lives were going to worship me by tomorrow night! I couldn’t help but feel the corners of my lips slowly stretch into a smile. My body shook as I laughed, my stomach tickled by my thoughts.

I sighed out the rest of my laughter and grabbed the knife, wincing as I cut my hand. Leaning over, I let my blood fall into the lines I’ve created. I grabbed a water bottle and let that mix in with my blood, filling the etched designs as I recited my spell from the book in front of me. Satisfied with my work, I sat back and continued chanting.

I checked the clock to see that an hour had passed, with my back aching and my jaw hurting from constantly reciting the spell, I was mentally kicking myself for not bringing a pillow with me, as my butt screamed in protest. I peeked at the clock once again, I was getting close to the halfway mark when the room around me violently shook, the windows rattled and the candles flickered as if a terrible storm was raging outside.

    Boom!

A noise followed by flashing lights, confirmed my suspicions. The whole house shook with a viscous rattle, like something was trying to tear this house into shreds. Not allowing it to distract me, I kept my mind on the prize, knowing I couldn’t miss not a single minute. The lightening raged on, flashing like cameras as It struck the ground three times within the same spot directly in front of the window before me. I jumped then, nearly dropping my book of spells in the process. As I tried to continue to read, a gust of wind burst from out of no where, sending a cold draft that blanketed the entire room, forcing me into an uncontrollable shiver. My heart raced and for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t sure whether I was excited or terrified.

I jerked my head towards my arm, as something grabbed onto me, yanking it roughly. Clutching the book with a vise like grip, I refused to let it go and instead of backing down another hand gripped my other arm, trying to catch me off guard to release the book from my hold. I wasn’t sure why, but I was having none of it. I gripped tighter and recited faster. I was a pro at what I do and these ghost were gonna learn just who I was. The howling of the wind, mixed with soft whispers pelted my ears with an eerie musical that wasn’t at all pleasant. I looked over at the time and at the window as the whispers grew frantic. They pierced my eardrums like needles and it felt as if they were bleeding, making a decision, I dropped the book.

Slamming on the breaks as the wheels of the car screeched across the pavement in protest. That monstrosity lurched itself before us, giving me no room to continue down the road. Just mere inches away from it, that thing and I had a stare down, determining which one of us would make the first move. Noticing how long it truly was, Its unnaturally long stick figure of a body, couldn’t entirely fit on the road. My eyes glided across its body, which stretched out somewhere into the woods, I couldn’t see how far and deep down I didn’t want to know.

Making its first move, its head slowly twisted, popping like the sound of snapping twigs. It’s eyes squinting at me while maintaining that sickly grin. My stomach twisted, ready to spew out the contents from within. The snapping finally subsided when its head had completely turned upside down. It was one thing to see a theater mask, but another to see it come to life. The way it looked sent chills down my spine… and if I survive this night, l’m sure l’d have never ending nightmares.

It taunted me for a bit, staring me down before creeping closer, crawling towards us like a spider. My mouth went dry and my hands shook uncontrollably. I gripped the steering wheel tighter to stop my hands from spasming even more. I didn’t want to see what it would do next, letting my survival instincts take over, I tugged onto the wheel and pressed onto the gas pedal, hard, flinging us towards the woods.

She screamed and I Screamed, our shouts melding together in terror filled harmony as I drove like a made man, trying to navigate us blindly through the forest, while swerving to evade any on coming trees. Maybe I could get out of here through the woods… or so I thought, when a tree popped out of nowhere and everything fell silent…

…I gasped loudly, my mind a jumbled mess as I tried to regain my bearings. Unsure of how long I’d been here for, I pushed myself away from the airbags. Fumbling to find the latch, I tugged on it, moaning as I let my self fall out of the car and onto the grass. Deciding not to bring her with me, I got up and ran.

Dashing through the trees, I didn’t care if the branches whipped at my skin, Escape was the only thing on my mind. I gotta get out of here! I gotta get out of here! I gotta… I tripped and fell onto the hard ground, looking down to see that it was pavement. I couldn’t help but feel a wave of relief come over me. Flinging myself up onto my feet I ran down the road, hoping to see a car. My happiness was short lived when a familiar bridge came into view.

“No!” I shouted and for the first time in my life I was a child again. Tears slipped down my cheeks as I limped to the other side of the road, heading back into the woods. Maybe this way might lead me ba… my mind froze and my knees gave way, causing me to collapse onto the ground in sheer terror. I stared at the sight of my car that was rammed up against a tree, trying to make sense of it all.

“No!” A voice shrieked, realizing it was coming from me. “No!” I repeated over and over, hoping I’d wake up from this hell… yes this was hell!

Sitting there on the forest floor, I clutched myself tightly, whatever sanity I had slipped through my fingers like sand. I wasn’t sure how long I sat there, but I finally got up and stumbled my way towards my car, I wasn’t sure what I was hoping for, but driving away felt like my only option. I reached towards the door handle and froze, my eyes widening. A body… my body was hunched over the wheel, blood poring from his skull and broken nose.

“Wh~what? W~Wait..” | stumbled over my words, confused. I turned my head towards the backseat, noticing that my future wife was gone.

Panicked, I turned to leave, trying to find her, when he… I mean me, when my unconscious self grabbed me, clinging to my arm with a vice like grip. I turned towards him, watching as blood pooled down his face. He didn’t say anything but the corners of his mouth curled up into a wide grin, blood seeping out and cascading over his chin like a river. That sinister smile was the exact same as that creatures. I tugged until I managed to yank myself free, only to tumble backwards onto my butt.

A girls laughter filled the forest around me, unable to take anymore torments, I begged for her to stop and to make it all go away. Clutching my head and pleading for mercy was the only thing I could do, it was all too much. “It seems the tides have turned.” She hummed from behind me.

I froze and then realized this woman… this tiny woman had turned me into something so pitiful, that it made my blood boil. Well… I was going to show her! I flew my head around, only to be met with a pale face with three upside down smiling black lines. It doused the flames of my rage, sending me back into a pit of hopelessness. Without warning It flung itself at me, gripping me with its insanely large hands. I yelped in pain as it held me in its clutches, its fingers like daggers, piercing my flesh.

It snapped its head back to normal and leaned in close “Becareful who you kidnap…” It said in a low, raspy voice, as if it were using it’s vocal cords for the first time. “…Even they have their own demons.”

  • Home Part: 3

“Be quiet!” I yelled. Knowing she was safely handcuffed to the handle of the car, I calmed my emotions. She wouldn’t escape even if she tried. I just needed her to be quiet so I could think. “Don’t you dare say another word, we are almost home…” | turned to her, smiling with reassurance “…..You’ll be happy once we get there.” | said softly before turning my attention back towards the road. Taking my foot off the break, I tried the exit once again.

I drove till I was on the bridge. Putting my foot on the break and parking the car, I hopped out and walked over to the edge to investigate further. Hoping I could find help… or maybe some kind of way out. I stared into the thick fog, praying that I could see something, but there was no light, no cars, just thick heavy clouds. Lifting my head up to see the exact same thing, no stars, no moon, nothing. What if I… I snapped my head back down towards the ground, searching until I found what I was looking for. I reached down and grabbed a rock, tossing it over and into the fog. Patiently waiting for the noise to follow, it felt like an eternity until I finally got my wish. It wasn’t at all what I hoped for, instead of hearing it below me, something hit the rails and landed next to me. Turning towards it stiffly, I prayed it wasn’t what I thought it was, but I was proven wrong, it was the rock that l had thrown. N-no way. I thought in disbelief. No freakin’ way!

Just where am I? I thought, I clutched the rail, as my heart sank down to my toes. Where am I? This can’t be real… this can’t be real! I rushed back towards the car, my mind racing.

I sat down, slamming the car door shut and staring out the window trying to process what was happening. “A-are you alright?” The girl behind me asked. I couldn’t answer, my words caught In my throat. It’s just a dream… I’m just having a nightmare! I threw my head back against the seat and closed my eyes… I’ll wake up and…

“Ahhh!” Her scream pierced my thoughts like an arrow, sending me crashing back into this nightmare.

“What is your problem?!” I yelled at her through gritted teeth. “L-look!’ She gestured with her head. I turned and my mind went blank, as a horrible chill danced up and down my spine.

My eyes glided up the tree, a silhouette of something was on top of the highest tree. I hadn’t notice I was staring at its neck, until it turned to face my direction. It was passed the top of the tree, the top of the highest freaking tree! But that’s not what made my heart stop, or what made my blood turn to ice and everything within me go completely numb. No…

His height, although frightening, wasn’t what petrified me, but it was his face that got me. His pale face, glowing like the surface of the moon’s and those eyes, those unbelievably unrealistic eyes, that stared at me… no not at me, but straight into the depths of my soul, like it was ready to snatch it out of my body. Its eyes, were nothing but two black pools of darkness and its mouth a gaping black line. It stared at me like I was dinner, its mouth slowly began to stretched from ear to ear, in an unnaturally painfully looking smile. As it did, its eyes joined in, turning into a smile itself. It looked exactly like those creepy theatre masks. Not wanting to stay any longer, I managed to regain feeling back into my limbs and set the car into drive, leaving the bridge and passing that monstrosity. Keeping a close eye on it, my heart flipped, as I watched it let go of the tree and creep along side my car.

I made it out before it could catch me, but hearing her piercing screams from behind me wasn’t exactly helping. “Quiet!” I shouted at her. “j~just let me think!” She was unfortunately not quiet, but after passing sixteen-B seven times, she spoke up her concerns.

“Wh~what is this place? Are we in some kind of loop?” She cried.

“I~I don’t know.” I replied. Not getting anywhere, I stepped on the breaks once again. But seeing the trees stir in front of me, made me rethink my decision. I watched as that thing poked it’s head out and stared at us, its smile never leaving its face. Without missing a beat, I put the car in reverse, driving backwards, but was forced to stop, when it somehow appeared behind us. Which confirmed my suspicions that we were indeed looping. Having no choice, I went back onto the exit, panicking.

“W~we have to find a way out!” | mumbled repeatedly. “T~there has to be a way out!”

  • Home Part: 2

Frustrated, I decided to drive straight. “Fine l’Il take a different exit then.” | mumbled under my breath. As I drove past it, I glanced back towards my GPS, the horror of what I was seeing sent chills up and down my spine. The empty space was filled with nothing but the words, sixteen-B. “Is this a sick joke!” I yelled into dead air. Taking my eyes off the dumb GPS, I settled onto the fact that it was obviously malfunctioning.

With my eyes transfixed on the road ahead, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. There is no way in the world that this is real! In disbelief, I passed countless exits that continue to say sixteen-B. Looking in the review mirror, I saw the exits on the other side of the highway, which they too, said exit sixteen-B.

Slamming on the breaks and cursing profusely, I was glad I had purchased a map. Reaching over, I fumbled blindly within the compartment, pulling out items and placing them back in until I finally grabbed the map. My eyes desperately studied the map, trying to find away out of this sink hole I was in. There had to be an explanation…. Something! but this…..this……I dropped the map in horror, nothing but sixteen-B was plastered repeatedly on every single exit, on every single route. There was nothing that could help me make sense of this situation. Hearing her stir behind me, I glanced up into my review mirror.

“Wh-where am I…” she looked at me, fear and confusion etched across her face. “…..Wh-who are you?” She cried.

    PART: 1

Yawning, I rolled down my window, letting the icy wind lick away the warmth of my cheeks, as I fought to keep the thick fog of sleep at bay. Stealing a quick glance at my dashboard, I smiled to myself. Just one more hour and we’re home… just one more hour…. I shook my head, trying to fight my heavy eyelids from closing. This was a battle I hadn’t realized I lost, even when my vision blurred and my eyelids fluttered close…

….Jerking myself awake, I wildly surveyed my surroundings, while my heart thumped a mile per minute. The adrenaline had fortunately woken me up, I gripped the steering wheel tightly in my hands and yanked the car back into place. I drove silently through the darkness, while my heart continued to beat like crazy, until I saw the sign for my exit drawing near and a sigh of relief escaped my lips, quieting my racing heart. I happily turned onto my exit, exit sixteen-B. As I made my way through, I noticed the trees appeared to have twisted inward, like they wanted to cage me in. Knowing it was my sleepy mind playing tricks on me, I looked up into the rear view mirror. Stealing a glance at the backseat to see her undisturbed figure, as her chest rose and fell in rhythmic patterns, smiling, I ripped my gaze away and back onto the twinning road ahead.

Listening to the hypnotic lullabies of the road as the terrain went from a smooth and quiet road to a loud screech, as I transitioned onto the bridge. Thick fog peered to cover either side of the outer bridge, it was a beautiful sight, yet it made me feel a sense of foreboding. I felt much better when I got off the bridge and back onto the road with the forest on-either side me. But that too, was quickly short lived. My relief turned into confusion, exit sixteen-B was back in my line of view. “Can’t be right?” I said aloud, now feeling more awake.

I hesitate for a brief moment, but decided on taking the exit. You’re losing it! I yelled at myself. Ten hours of no sleep, that must be it! Glancing over to Check the GPS, it showed me heading onto the exit. Scratching my head, I waited for that familiar voice of the robotic women to make her annoying appearance. I heaved a heavy sigh when she decided not to speak. Piece of junk!

Going back onto the exit, I passed the bridge once again and went back onto the road. My worries sliding into fear and then panic… exit sixteen-B was right in front of me.

  • ¿Reality? Final

1 grabbed her tiny hand in mines, as we all headed back into the kitchen. Rime pulled out a chair for her to sit on, while I went to pour us both some water. Plopping down in the middle, I gave Inami her cup and placed mines infront of me. We were all dealing with stress at such a young age and I felt like our world was crumbling at the seems. I hate it. I sighed, staring down at the rippling water. It felt as if our voices were lost to the wind, no one paid us any mind and because of our age, why would they even want to listen? “I feel like I just can’t escape these nightmares.” | said aloud, placing my head into my hands.

A moment of silence passed between us. Eventually taking my hand away from my face, I went to retrieve my cup, only to momentarily stop dead within my tracks, my eyes gliding across the window. My blood went cold, almost falling out of my seat, my hand shout out, blindly searching for my brothers. When it found them, I clutched them tightly, to afraid to let go.

He reciprocated my feelings, clutching mines in return. I realized in that moment, I truly wasn’t alone.

A pale hand pressed up against the windowpane. Noticing the familiar black decorative veins, that crawled up its arms like spiderwebs, threatened me with its painful reminders. Its glowing eyes, peered in at us, it’s breath fogging up the window as it grew closer and closer towards the glass. I glanced over at Inami, she couldn’t see what we saw, but I knew she could feel its presence, as she clutched her tiny body, shivering. I felt bad for her and for us.

“It’s like I can’t tell what’s reality anymore.” Startled by my brothers words, before nodding in agreement. He had taken the words right out my mouth. Turning my attention back towards the window, we stared at the monster together.

This story is dedicated to my loved ones. I wish them strong and happy lives and to know family will always be there when they need us! 💕 💕

  • ¿Reality? Part: 2

Springing from my bed in a pool of my own sweat, I let out a deep sigh of relief, before throwing the covers off of me. With a parched throat, I dragged my tired body out of my room and into the hall. Not bothering to turn on the lights, I used my hand to guid me. Making my decent down the stairs, I crept towards the kitchen as to not make too much noise and wake everyone, when my ears perked up to something moving just beyond the walls, I stopped to listen.

    Screech!

A noise like nails scrapping against a chalk board resounded in the air. I recoiled at the sound, the fear of what lurked behind the wall quickened my heart rate but curiosity dragged my unwilling feet towards the noise. Stopping just near the edge of the archway, I peeked from behind it. Across the small kitchen, sat my older brother, sitting down by the dinner table amongst the silence. I let out a breath of relief. His face illuminated by dancing lights that flickered through the dark room like a disco ball. He had his headphones on and was chuckling at the screen. A devious thought popped into my head and without hesitation a smile crept across my face. Tiptoeing, I slowly crept up behind him. I lifted my hands up and grabbed his shoulders. He jerked upwards, slamming into the table while simultaneously letting out a loud yelp. I tried shushing him through my uncontrollable laughter. “Mom and Inami are sleeping!”

“Don’t scare me like that!” He whispered loudly, clutching his chest. “I already had a nightmare.” He paused his video and glared at me.

With understanding, I plopped down on a chair next him, sighing loudly. Quickly grabbing his cup and ignoring his protests, I took a long swig of the clear liquid. The coldness spread out my veins like wildfire, quenching not only my thirst but the heat of my body and cooling me down. “Rime…” I said, with no trace of playfulness. “…Do you think it’ll ever get better?”

“I don’t know Mya…” he said with a sigh, knowing exactly what I meant. “…I just don’t know.” He shook his head and looked down.

    Thump! Thump! Thump!

Rime and I both jumped at the sound coming from behind us. Curiosity taking over our bodies as we got up to investigate. Relief flooded my veins like cold water, as we watch Inami sliding her little butt down the stairs. “Inami?” I said “You should be asleep.”

“I know.” She replied in her tiny voice that sounded so much like mini-mouse. “But something didn’t feel right and I woke up.” Me and Rime looked at eachother, as if to say her-too?

  • ¿Reality? Part: 1

Don’t look back! Don’t look back! I yelled loudly in my head. My heart was pounding like a hummingbirds, as my bare feet slapped through the dead leaves that sprawled across the cold forest floor. Something malicious was pursuing me to no end.

Doesn’t that thing ever rest? I thought. My muscles ached and my lungs burned, begging for something to quell its fire. Tripping over an invisible branch below me, my momentum working against me, flinging me across the forest floor. Knowing I couldn’t stop, I watched in horror as I plummeted down a hill. Coming to a complete stop at the bottom of the hill, I couldn’t find the strength to get back up, my lungs burned and my desire of hope faded like a dying wish. Should I just give up and give into that monster?

No! A voice yelled from deep within my subconscious. No Mya! It yelled my name, screaming for me to get up. You can make it!

I sighed, feeling that dark presence growing closer, Ready to consume me.

‘But I can’t keep moving.’ I replied back ‘I’m already at a loss and I’m all alone… I feel so numb, I just wanna sleep… just let me sleep! I closed my eyes, ready to give in. But I felt another presence calling out to me. It was so warm, so loving. My eyelids flew open and the strength I thought was long gone, pumped me up with adrenaline. Shooting back up to my feet, I faced the creature before me. It slowly crawled down the hill, a dead gray hand with black veins decorating its skin, reached out of the shadows in an attempt to grab me. My heart nearly stopped and I couldn’t help but tumble backwards, landing into something soft and warm as it wrapped its arms around me. Not seeing who it was, I took them by the hand and ran.
